Born in Moscow, Russia, and immigrating to the United States as a child, Alexandra has had a love and passion for art from an early age. Her first artistic memory was a sculpture class at the age of four, followed soon thereafter with years of private art lessons in various media, including pastel, colored pencils, oils, and acrylics. Oils, which allow for the ultimate combination of realism and fluidity of color, proved to be her favorite.
After attaining a degree in economics, Alexandra worked in finance for several years, before the professional world of art beckoned. She completed a Master of Arts in Art History, focusing on seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish art. After studying Dutch Masters such as Johannes Vermeer, Pieter Claesz, and Dirck de Bray, she was motivated to pursue a career in painting.
Alexandra is primarily inspired by the beauty of nature. Her tightly rendered flowers show not only a great attention to detail, but also a love for bright color combinations. She believes that works of art should be uplifting and stimulating to the senses, and her dramatic use of light and shadow give her paintings great visual appeal.
